Old Place of Study

This painting was based on a photograph I took in Venice. It is an old building that houses a place of study called Bet Midrash Luzzatto. I found out that Rabbi Luzzatto was a very significant figure and chief Rabbi in Italy for a time. I assume that many students have passed through these doors either directly learning from Rabbi Luzzatto, or from his followers. I was initially attracted to those big green wooden doors with interesting patterns carved across them.
